Go Green This Christmas: Get GDEALER Solar String Light

Christmas is in the air!
A common sight in every home is the 'Christmas Light' - string of tiny bulbs lighting up patios, sitting room, rooftops, trees around the house...everywhere they seem to be. They are usually powered by the mains requiring one extra plugin point.

The GDEALER Solar String Light available on Amazon is a 'green' Christmas lighting with very good performance and as the name suggest gets its power from the sun.

It has very excellent review from users.

It is 72’ (feet) long and there are 200 led lights throughout. The LEDs are multi colored and spaced approximately 4 inches apart.

The solar panel thats charges the battery comes on a spike stand 20cm long which should be driven into the soil and positioned to get maximum sunlight. The GDEALER Solar String Light batteries are to be charged for at least 12 hours before using it.

Afterwards, you can set up the GDEALER Solar String Light. At sunset the GDEALER Solar String Light will come on by itself if set to auto switch on, otherwise you can switch manually. On a single charge you can expect up to 8 hours of operation.

You can set the light to remain permanently on or set it to flashing mode.

Let me be the first to wish you Merry Christmas!

Greening Gradually

"Greenie, greenie, greenie" Janet called with excitement written all over her! Janet a two year old bright girl full of energy clutched greenie, a stuffed toy close to her body.

In my ongoing sojourn into the "Green" world. I recently bought a solar panel with the rating marked on it as 80W with a rated current of 4.17A and Voltage of 17V. I initially bought it for lighting due to the persistent power cut in Nigeria.

It is presently serving more than for lighting, I use it to run my laptop, radio as well as recharge mobile phone batteries. Of recent I had to recharge my 210AH deep cycle battery with it when power-cut ran into several days!

Figure 3 I use the set up with quite a number of small appliances including Dell N5040 15.6" laptop, 500W Drill e.t.c.

Cheap Solar Lighting: Sunking Solar Lamp

The Sunking Solar Lantern is an innovative product of Greenlight Planet an India based company. They are cheap and durable Lanterns that easily replace the kerosene lamps that have been in existence for years.

The models produced by the company includes: Eco, Solo, Mobile and Pro 2.  They come with a small detachable solar panel and five-meter length cable which makes it easy to install on a roof, extend to an area of the house that has long hours of sun ray coming through (I actually installed one on the roof of a relative and let the cable in through the window netting).

For the two I use at home (both Eco model), the two solar panels are permanently kept at my Kitchen window; it gets sufficient sunlight daily to charge the lanterns for prolonged use – up to 18 hours at medium brightness.

The lantern comes with a well thought of detachable metallic stand that makes it easy to place on a table, hang on the wall or place at your own chosen surface. It also has a strap which enables one carry it around like a torchlight if you choose to detach the lantern from the stand.

The ingenuity of the designer is further brought to the fore in the Mobile charging option included in the Mobile and Pro 2 models.

Get rid of the inverter; optimize your battery's stored energy better find means of powering your electronics with direct current (DC).

Most Electronics device operate with direct current (DC), however because electricity from the mains supply is in alternating current (AC) form, these devices are connected to the mains, the device manufacturer includes a power supply circuitry to step the mains supply (AC), down to a much more lower voltage (usually) and then convert the stepped down AC to DC.

Inverters waste energy when converting energy stored in batteries in DC form to AC (which most electronics are connected to) the wasted energy in the conversion process will better serve in giving additional operational time for your electronics.
Living Green

  • Do not waste energy, turn machineries, appliances, electric lighting off when not in use
  • Do not waste water
  • Support and participate in recycling programmes
  • Use energy saving electrical appliances
  • Use one or a combination of "Green Energy" sources e.g. Solar, Wind turbine to power appliances.
